Corporate Sustainability: Moving Beyond PR to a Cohesive Corporate Culture
Wednesday, October 19, 2022, 2pm EDT

Event Overview
There is no doubt that confusion in the marketplace over how to integrate sustainability into corporate operations is rampant. This is amplified by the financial sector’s embrace of the term “ESG,” first coined by the U.N., in an attempt to highlight to shareholders that it is concerned about the environmental impact, the social impact, and the governance aspect of business but often without metrics to evaluate and measure results. As a result of the successful use of the term, other industries have adopted ESG when describing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Consequently, the terms “CSR” and “ESG” are often used interchangeably, creating more ambiguity than clarity.
Recently, impact investors and other stakeholders have begun asking for transparency, pushing back on the lack of standard metrics to measure and evaluate the impact of ESG/CSR policies that corporations implement. This webinar will explore current trends in CSR and discuss pathways toward corporate sustainability initiatives that form a cohesive, top-down philosophy that permeates a company culture and can be implemented through measurable policies.
This discussion is hosted by the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise at the S.C. Johnson College of Business in collaboration with the CSG Group and Bonomi Desenvolvimento Empresarial.

Investor Perspective: Defining a Sustainable Company
Monday, April 25, 2022, 6pm EDT

Event Overview
The interest in sustainable investing has grown in recent years, but what constitutes a sustainable investment has not yet been consistently defined. This panel will focus on how investors approach sustainable investing and incorporate frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve inclusive, sustainable growth and reduce risk in their investment portfolio.

The conversation will highlight how startups can benefit from sustainability strategies as well as the importance of appropriate metrics in measuring social and environmental impact while improving financial returns. You will also hear from two companies that were founded on sustainability principles and how they have been using sustainability to position themselves to partner with investors who want to support them on their growth journey.
This event is co-hosted by the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise at the S.C. Johnson College of Business and the Capitalism and Social Good Group (together with Bonomi Desenvolvimento Empresarial).

B Invested: The Value of B Corp Certification
Tuesday, October 05, 2021, 12pm EDT

Event Overview
B Corporations are businesses that have gone through a rigorous evaluation to prove that they are run with the intent of building a world where “business” isn’t a dirty word. Over the course of the last decade, the pursuit of B Corp certification has become an endeavor that thousands of business owners around the globe find worthwhile.

ESG investing has surged recently, but the question of how to define a sustainable company varies among every asset manager, impact investor, and index. B Corp certification has become a standout way of proving your sustainability cred, with names like Patagonia and Danone NA touting their status, but when companies go looking for investors, does it pay off? And how do you reconcile the legally binding language of taking the next step and incorporating as a benefit company with the fiduciary responsibility to shareholders?
Co-hosted with the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise and the Capitalism and Social Good Group (together with Bonomi Desenvolvimento Empresarial).
